Rome, Italy

One of the things I love most about solo travel is the microscopic feeling I get in comparison to the world around me. The eternal city of Rome feels so GRAND, so colossal in such a way that I can not explain, but completely aids in that microscopic feeling. Awestruck by the ruins, delighted by the food and pleasantly welcomed by locals; I fell in love the moment I exited roma termini. And after previously watching “Eat, Pray, Love” many times in the weeks leading up to my first visit, I could confirm that the film perfectly captured the feeling, the aura, the enchanting sweetness of Italy.

To date, I’ve been to Rome many times and even ended up loosely stranded there with my dear friend — after a whirlwind day trip and a train timetable misunderstanding that routed us right back to the eternal city. In this mini guide, I’ll attempt to capture the hold Rome has on me with a few personal highlights of the best of the city.

5 Must see Attractions

  • Pantheon - one of the best preserved monuments with a stunning, record breaking dome.

  • Trevi Fountain - one of the most famous fountains in the world, known for its size and grand Baroque style — an old tale claims tossing a coin into the fountain ensures your return to the eternal city. ( this explains a lot! )

  • Colosseum - the largest amphitheatre in the ancient world.

  • Roman Forum - ruins of many ancient government buildings at the center of the city.

  • Monument to Victor Emmanuel II - a massive monument built to honor the first king of a unified Italy.

Known as “The Eternal City” and often called the world’s greatest outdoor museum, Rome is centered in the Lazio region of Italy. With over 900 hundred churches, each one considered more beautiful than the last — Rome is thought to be the most representative city of catholic faith in the world.
