Although there are many corners of the world I have yet to explore, Italy is my favorite country to date. With its sophisticated, Tuscan charm, Florence captured my heart on a solo adventure; and pulled me back in for a long-term stay two years later.
Living in a quiet little town in the province of Arezzo, I spent my Saturdays exploring Tuscan towns little by little — while I spent my Sundays enjoying hours long, wine-filled lunches with my newfound family of friends.
With much gratitude for a dream-like chapter of my life, Tuscany is my favorite region to curate adventures in. This mini guide highlights a few things I love about Tuscany’s capital city.
Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore - this iconic Duomo set the scene for the Italian Renaissance and certainly sets the scene for what to expect in modern day Florence.
Basilica of Santa Croce - the principal Franciscan church of Florence.
Ponte Vecchio - a medieval bridge over the Arno River, now home to many artisan and jewelry shops.
Piazzale Michelangelo - set on a hill south of the Arno River, this piazza offers stunning panoramic views of the city at sunset.
Piazza della Signoria - the political center of the city —- a lively square featuring a smaller replica of Michelangelo’s “David”.
Florence, best known as Firenze in Italian is the capital city of Tuscany. Firenze is considered the birthplace of the Renaissance — with it’s iconic Duomo and many historic masterpieces.
Visit Uffizi Gallery - this well known gallery is located in the city center and houses some of the most famous works of the Renaissance.
Spend an afternoon wandering the Boboli Gardens - a historic park with several gardens and beautiful views of the city.
Visit La Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze - the home of Michelangelo’s “David” sculpture.
Take a drive to visit Antinori Nel Chianti Classico - an architecturally stunning winery built entirely with local materials.
